The Faculty of Arts, by virtue of being the first Faculty in the University of Ibadan, is logically as old as the 69 year-old University itself. Administratively, it is headed by the Dean who is elected by the Faculty Board in accordance with extant University rules. Its administrative structure includes the offices of Sub-Dean, Postgraduate, Sub-Dean, General and a Faculty Officer. The Faculty consists of 12 Departments: Arabic and Islamic Studies, Archaeology and Anthropology, Classics, Communication and Language Arts, English, European Studies, History, Linguistics and African Studies, Music, Philosophy, Religious Studies, and Theatre Arts. Each department has a Head, appointed by the Vice Chancellor in accordance with extant University regulations. These departments have vibrant and socially relevant academic and professional programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The Faculty is committed to the values of research, teaching and community service that are core to academic tradition and academic global best practices. In this regard, academic staff are engaged in different cutting-edge research, dynamic interaction with students and vibrant interface with the town. The Faculty regularly holds seminars, conferences, workshops and other academic programmes that are beneficial to students, staff and the general public.
