NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF PHILOSOPHY STUDENTS (NAPS)

http://ibadan.napsnigeria.org/

The University of Ibadan Chapter of the National Association of Philosophy Students is based in the Department and all Philosophy Students (single or combined) are members of this association. The NAPS is not a student union but an academic association whose objectives include the promotion of intellectual activities as well as social interaction among philosophy students. The association publishes a periodical called Reflections, holds occasional lectures and celebrates an annual week. All students in the department are expected to participate actively in the activities of the association. The Chairman of the student/staff Laison committee is also the staff adviser of the association.

CAREER PROSPECTS FOR PHILOSOPHY STUDENTS

The degree programme of the department from inception has been designed in a comprehensive manner such that philosophy graduates can easily fit into any career they may choose. Graduates in philosophy are by the nature of their training equipped to take on any job for which a basic training in the humanities is an asset. But more specifically, they would do well in any job situation where initiative and clear logical thinking are essential. Thus, our graduates have been found to do very well in the mass media in research institutes, in personal management and other related fields.

STUDENT/STAFF LIAISON COMMITTEE

There is a staff/student Liaison Committee which serves as a forum for interaction between staff and students. All students grievances are to be channeled through this body. The committee is composed of representatives of students and an appointed academic staff who is the chairman. For information on the current Chairman of the Committee, contact the Secretary to the Department or the Head of Department.
